WhatsApp Business Verification: Green Badge, Requirements, Timeline
Verified badge vs. WhatsApp Business Account
The two are often confused, but they are different things.
The verified badge (green checkmark)
A checkmark shown next to your business name on WhatsApp. It tells customers the profile belongs to a known public business. It is granted after a review and does not replace the opt-in, template, and quality rules.
A verified WhatsApp Business Account
The account state after business verification in Meta Business Manager. This is the requirement for full Meta Cloud API access, higher rate limits, and campaigns at scale.
The display name rule
Meta checks your display name against the registered business name. A display name that does not match the registered entity is one of the most common blockers.
How business verification works
Verification runs through Meta Business Manager. You confirm the legal business identity and then confirm the phone number that will host WhatsApp.
- Confirm your business name and legal details in Business Manager
- Submit the supporting documents Meta requests for your region
- Confirm the phone number with a code
- Verify your website domain if you connect a website
- Wait for the review; approval unlocks full API capabilities and higher limits
Documents and requirements
Meta asks for proof that the business exists, in your name, with reachable contact points.
- Business registration or license document matching the declared name
- A working website that lists the same business details
- A phone number you can receive a confirmation code on
- Business email and contact details consistent across documents
- Tax or VAT records in some regions, if requested
Common rejection reasons
Most verification applications fail on mismatches, not on missing paperwork.
- Business name on documents does not match the Business Manager name
- Website is down, placeholder, or lists different details
- Phone number not confirmed before review
- Documents expired, unreadable, or for a different entity
- Display name that reads as a personal name or promotional phrase
Timeline and costs
Verification itself is free; Meta does not charge for the review. Timeline guidance: most applications are reviewed within a few business days, with some taking up to two weeks when documents need clarification. Costs start after verification, in the form of per-conversation Meta fees when you run business-initiated messages.
