What the WhatsApp Business App gives you
The app is free from Meta and covers the basics of a small business on WhatsApp.
- Free to download; runs on one phone, one person at a time
- Quick replies, labels, an away message, and a simple catalog
- No pre-approved templates, no campaigns tool, no automations
- No API access: the number is tied to the device, and handover means handing over the phone

What the WhatsApp Business API gives you
The API is how businesses run WhatsApp at scale. The number is cloud-hosted instead of living on a phone.
- Multi-agent shared inbox: every conversation visible to the whole team
- Pre-approved templates for business-initiated messages outside the 24-hour window
- Campaigns, flow builder, automations, and AI reply drafts
- Integrations with CRM, booking, store, and billing tools
- Per-conversation Meta fees by category and country; a provider (BSP) such as Wutt connects the number

When to stay on the app, when to move to the API
Stay on the app while one person can answer everything on one phone. Move to the API when any of these are true:
- More than one person needs to answer customers
- You want pre-approved templates for reminders, confirmations, and campaigns
- You want automations, a flow builder, or AI reply drafts
- You need integrations with booking, ecommerce, or your CRM
- You want analytics and quality visibility instead of a phone log

The per-conversation fee reality
App users pay no conversation fees. API users pay Meta per conversation, by category and destination country, since November 2024. Service conversations inside the 24-hour window are free; marketing, utility, and authentication conversations bill at different rates. The app's freedom is real, but the API's features are the reason businesses accept the fee.

How Wutt fits
Wutt connects your number to the Meta Cloud API, runs the shared inbox, templates, campaigns, and flows, and adds zero markup to Meta's conversation fees. You pay the Wutt plan and exactly what Meta charges, nothing in between.

A number is connected either to the app or to the API. You can migrate a number between them, but not run both at once.
No SIM or phone is needed; the number is cloud-hosted. You can register a new number or migrate an existing one.
The provider connects your number to the Meta Cloud API, manages templates and compliance, and offers the tools around it. Wutt is the provider here.
Wutt plans start at $11/mo, plus Meta conversation fees by category and country. Wutt adds zero markup to those fees.
Yes. The number migrates, and Wutt walks you through it. Keep your opt-in records; they migrate with the account.
Only by sharing one device or companion mode with limits: no assignments, no handover, and no per-agent view of the conversation.
